Food as medicine

As North America’s largest retailer with locations serving remote and underserved communities, Walmart stores are often a great resource, if not only resource, for products and services supporting individual and family livelihoods.

Considering a fifth of our U.S. customers hover around the federal poverty line, we know we are something different. More than a store for fashion and entertainment, we offer products supporting health and nutritional needs through pharmacy, vision, medical supplies and devices, and grocery. 

Using the World Health Organization’s Social Determinants of Health, we were able to identify our key points of empathy in shaping our vision to serve this demographic.
